Aim and Scope
The purpose of the journal "Eposovedenie" is to highlight new research findings from the Russian and international academic community in the field of contemporary epic studies and other genres of folklore; to promote the development of theoretical and applied research in the social sciences and humanities; and to establish and strengthen scientific ties between scholars from various regions of Russia and other countries in the fields of folklore studies, linguistics, and current issues and various aspects of the language of epics.

Open Access Policy
This is an open access journal. All articles are made freely available to readers immediatly upon publication.
Our open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition - it means that articles have free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Peer-Review
In the journal"Eposovedenie"
- All manuscripts received by the editorial board of the journal “Epic studies” reviewed compulsorily by members of the editorial board or public reviewers on the recommendation of the relevant specialty editorial board.
- All reviewers are acknowledged experts in the specialized field of sciences, have publications in the relevant industry.
- The review should be done within two weeks of receipt of the manuscript of scientific articles by reviewer.
- Reviewers stay anonymous on the principle of “double blind” review: reviewer, and the author does not know the names of each other.
- Infraction of anonymity is possible only of the reviewer’s application on plagiarism or falsification of the materials contained in the article. Reviews of the manuscript papers prepared by members of the editorial board or experts sent to review by representatives of universities and the authors upon request by e-mail.
- If the review contains recommendations for corrections and refinement of the articles, the executive secretary sends the text of reviews to the author with the proposal to consider the recommendations in the preparation of a new version of the article or arguments to refute them. Revised version is re-sent for review.
- In the case of refusal of publication of the article the author receives a reasoned refusal.
- In controversial cases, a copy of the review of the submitted article is sent at the request of the author.
- Article, which is not recommended for publication by reviewer, is not accepted to reconsidering.
- Decision on the publication of a scientific article is taken after reviewing by the editor in chief, and if necessary – the editorial board as a whole.
- Upon request, the review must be submitted to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
- Reviews of the received materials are resided in the editorial board.
Publishing Ethics
All parties involved in the process of preparation of materials for publication in the journal ”Epic studies”, namely the authors, reviewers, editorial board members, representatives of the publishers – should follow standards of publication ethics as described below.
These provisions correspond to the ethical principles adopted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In the event that any of the following principles are violated, the editorial board will follow the instructions of COPE (http://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines).
- Authorship
By submitting the article to the editorial office of the journal, the authors thereby confirm their authorship of the submitted materials. The editorial board does not require all authors of the article to sign a letter of application. The very fact of the application means that all authors indicated in the manuscript agree with the content of the article.
The author should ensure that all those who took part in the creation of the publication (in the study or in the process of writing the text of the article) are listed as co-authors. At the same time, each co-author bears public responsibility for the content of the article.
In the text of the manuscript, the author must indicate all external sources of information significant for this article (including their own previously published articles and scientific materials), formalizing them in the form of quotes or references.
Any controversial issues related to possible plagiarism or falsification of results are carefully considered by the editorial board. If plagiarism or falsification of results is confirmed, the article is unconditionally rejected. Any form of plagiarism is not allowed.
The author should avoid self-plagiarism (re-publication). The author must inform the editorial board of the journal about all their works (as well as all the works of co-authors), which intersect on the subject with the article attached to the application, and which have been submitted for consideration in other publications.
- Reviewing process
Editors have the exclusive right to accept or reject a manuscript for publication. Incoming manuscripts must be reviewed, but the manuscript may be rejected at the stage prior to review if there is a good reason for this (for example, in cases where the subject of the article does not correspond to the subject of the online publication, the article is obviously of low scientific quality, the article was previously published in another edition, etc.). Editors accept an article for publication in accordance with their conviction that it meets the requirements of an online publication.
Editors must guarantee the high quality of the materials published in the journal and their content integrity, as well as publish corrections, explanations, apologies in cases where such a need arises.
Editors should not have a conflict of interest with the authors of those articles that they reject or accept for publication.
Editors must ensure that the material they publish complies with international standards of scientific and editorial ethics.

Publication in “Epic Studies" is free of charge for all the authors.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
Plagiarism detection
“Epic Studies" use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.
Preprint and postprint Policy
Prior to acceptance and publication in “Epic Studies", authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.
As part of submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in “Epic Studies" we suggest that the link to the article on journal's website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.

Revenue Sources
The publication of the journal is financed by the funds of the parent organization, at the expense of the publisher, publication of advertising materials, publication of reprints, article processment charges.
